Welcome Scrappers!! If you’ve been following the Clique Kit blog hop you just came from Charity’s blog. Welcome!! Welcome!! If yon’t seen all the amazing layouts and projects from the other ladies in the Clique Kit blog hop, there will be a list at the end of this blog post, so you can go back and feast your eyes some more.

This month we received the Tapestry Kit for November, which had mostly the WRMK Wildflower Collection. This collection and Kit is gorgeous and perfect for Autumn. I love all the texture on the paper too. It really inspired me on many of the layouts I made so far.

This month in the store as an add on I spied gelatos! I couldn’t pass them up. It really has been a while since I played with gelatos, and when I got my kit that was what I was most excited to use. They really inIMG_4136spired me on this layout.
I love how gelatos help give you that watercolor look without much work. They are easy to use and easy to wipe away with gesso, if you add too much. They really give a nice mixed media look without having much knowledge of mixed media techniques.

I choose to use three colors that were in my photo, and covered most of the background with the gelatos. I added a little water to mix and activate them. I was careful to clean my big brush so I didn’t mix the colors together though. The colors were a little bright (it’s a little hard to imagine me saying that, right?). The colors were a little neon for the colors in the papers. Though the green was a deep olive green, matching great with my photo.

I used a feather stencil from my stash to wipe off some of the gelatos with a wet paper towel. This helped a little with the color but it still needed to be toned down before I added my paper layers and embellishments. I also carefully added some pearlized white paint, I really didn’t want the gelatos  to mix with the paint I just wanted the paint to cover the color a little and tone it down. I like the shimmery look of the pearlized white and that it is much more translucent than regular white paint.

Lately I have been looking through older family photos. I spotted this old family portrait we took in 2003 for my grandmother. We were still all together in the same area so it is nice to have a snapshot of us all together. Especially afterIMG_4143 many of us have moved away and don’t see each often. We all dressed in Autumn colors and went to a local bridge to get some really nice shots of us near the colored Autumn leaves in the background. Even though I only have this one little photo I still wanted to make sure I scrapped it to put in my album to remember all of them. I knew the colors in this photo would work really well with this kit too.

To try to complement the fact that my only photo is so small (especially on a 12×12 layout) I added a frame off set to the side of the photo. I kept it open, and only added embellishments around the sides of the framIMG_4140e. At first I thought I might add a few embellishments to the middle of the frame, but decided I liked the open space, and really wanted to keep this layout simple. The bows from WRMK’s for this collection were adorable and perfect for this.

I used lots of layers behind my photo. All these layers just make me happy. I even used the glassine the embellishments came in as a layer. I love how all the colors in the papers work together in the layers. They worked really well with distressed and torn edges too. I also decided to use a tag from the cut apart sheet as a layer and added it slightly askew for interest. The feather clips from Pink Paislee really helped add a nice texture to my layers too.

I wanted to add a few extra embellishments and something at the bottom for extra interest. I wanted everything to work together though, because IMG_4137of all the color going on. The bottom I used gold and neutral colors with a wood heart from Pink fresh Studios and some yellow enamel dots.

I added some butterflies with the wings popped up and used green and orange enamel dots to match the colors on the background.

IMG_4142I used the alpha stickers from the sticker sheet for the bottom part of the title with a banner under the photo. The dark blue and gold are so sharp. They worked so well with the Word thickers in gold fro the collection that I bought as an add on. I used the word Lovely as part of the title, and placed it up above the picture. I don’t always like to separate the title but I was hoping this keep your eye more on the photo with it apart like that.

I definitely look forward to creating more with this kit too. I still have plenty more even though I have made quite a few layouts so far.

I  posted a process video for this layout on my Youtube channel. You can watch it Here.

I hope you continue and check out Leigh next in the Pep Rally Blog Hop Her link is below!!
